Jaffna Public Library
The Jaffna Public Library is a symbol of cultural pride and perseverance, standing as one of Sri Lanka’s most revered landmarks. Originally established in 1934, this iconic structure housed a collection of over 97,000 rare manuscripts, books, and historical texts, representing the rich heritage of the Tamil community.
Though it suffered immense destruction during the civil unrest in 1981, the library was rebuilt and reopened, emerging as a testament to the resilience of the people of Jaffna.
